Boluwaji Iruoje
Born in Nigeria (Edo State).
Founding member of the Montreal Mount Royal Drumming Community in 1978. Moved to Vancouver in 1979.
Founding member of the foremost Ogedengbe Drummers Drum Performing Group which Performed at various Folk Festivals and special events (including notably the Expo 86 opening events at the then Canada Place in 1979) and throughout Canada and the United States of America.Founding member of the Sunday Spanish Banks Community.
Established the famous African Arts/Gallery on Broadway that was in operation for over 30 years in Vancouver British Columbia.
Conducted Educational African Drumming programs in all the Schools in British Columbia and Alberta School Districts.
Successfully ran Drum workshop programs in almost every Community Center in Vancouver and Richmond.

Born in Ghana, Steve's childhood was stolen at 13 when he reluctantly joined the army, only to face the brutality of war and abuse. With courage and desperation, he escaped, embarking on a journey to find refuge.
His quest led him to Vancouver, where the city's calmness embraced his wounded African soul. In the rhythmic heartbeat of drumming, Steve discovered a healing sanctuary that transcended the physical. The vibrations allowed him to travel through realms untouched by war.
Settling in Vancouver, Steve devoted himself to sharing the drum's healing power. His dream, born from pain, blossomed into a movement. Through the beats, Steve crafted a legacy that spoke of resilience and transformation, a testament to the enduring power of music and the human spirit. Steve's dream evolved into a movement Drum Soul — one that sought to spread the knowledge of drumming as a transformative force. The movement grows, becoming a beacon of hope for those in search of healing and the power of rhythms.
African Drum performer at many festivals in BC and Canada including the African Descent Festival, Folk Festival in Calgary, and Caribbean Festival in Vancouver. Did a couple of shows in Toronto. Played with Drum Cafe. Founding member of the Sunday Spanish Banks Community and the Tuesday Drum Circle, Third Beach, Stanley Park, Vancouver. Conducted Educational African Drumming programs in all the Schools in British Columbia and Alberta School Districts. Did community work for Oppenheimer Park. Skilled in drum tunning and building.

The Drum Soul team organised the Drum Circle during the African Descent Festival—two days of sharing the skills of traditional African drumming, having fun and building unity. Great atmosphere! Thank you all!
The Drum Soul was invited by the Maritime Museum in Vancouver to provide a workshop for kids—a lot of good vibration and energy. Drums, bells and shakers are great tools for expressing emotions and creativity. Kids could also learn how to cooperate and listen to each other. They had a lot of fun. We too!
The Drum Soul was a participant in the Fusion Festival in Surrey. The event was focused on the celebration of music, food, and culture from all over the world! Time of joy and entertainment and getting along together in the heart of Surrey. We appreciated this time a lot!
The Drum Soul team was invited to a school show at Neilson Grove Elementary School in Delta. It was a great time and opportunity to share some knowledge about the history of drumming, types of drums and other percussion instruments. The kids had a lot of questions and were very eager and happy to play and dance with us. Thank you all!
On Saturday, May 11th, 2024 we had the pleasure of opening the event organised by the Maritime Museum inVaouer. Nobody could resist dancing in the sunshine to the rhythms of drums and shakers.

On May 27th at the front of Surrey Libraries - City Centre Branch Drum Soul in cooperation with the African Descent Society organised a drum circle, where everyone could grab a drum and join the drummers. All ages, nationalities, and cultures were represented! God time! Thank you all!
We were invited to provide a drumming class for high school students. We were a bit loud so soon teachers from other classrooms came to see what going on! It is always a pleasure to cooperate in a group and show them how drumming guides us to listen to each other, cooperate and create a common piece of art.
